چکیده

The surfaces of strained mild steel sheet specimens were examined with scanning laser confocal microscopy. Rigorous assessments were employed to establish the form of the roughness data. The small deviations from the ideal conditions observed in these assessments indicated that the stochastic process responsible for surface roughening does not conform to stationary, Gaussian, Markov statistics. As physical considerations make violations of the stationary and Markov properties unlikely, it was concluded that even small discrepancies in the Gaussian fit have substantial influences on the quality of roughening behavior characterizations. This also confirms that deformation-induced surface roughness occurs by a small number of statistically dominant mechanisms. Analyses of the mean amplitude (Rq) and spatial distributions both exhibited sharp changes in behavior at approximately 4% strain. Since the physical meanings of the two analyses are independent, it was concluded that this common behavior correlated with a change in dominant roughening mechanism. Study of Loose Soil Layer Effects on Excavations Supported by Steel Sheet Pile Walls – A Numerical Study

Abstract Steel sheet pile walls are being widely used in civil engineering projects for support systems. Soil is not uniform in depth, sometimes may be exit loose or soft soil layer in various depth. This issue can cause different effects on ground surface displacements, forces and moments acting on sheet piles and struts during excavation procedure, compared with status that soil is uniform...

Strain-Induced Martensite Transformation Simulations during Cold Rolling of AISI 301 Austenitic Stainless Steel

Austenite is a semi-stable phase in most stainless steels that deforms to martensite under Md30 and forms martensitetype ά and ε due to the deformation in the steels. Since the distribution of strain induced martensite plays animportant role in achieving desired properties, the main objective of the present work is to model martensitedistribution of ά during cold rolling using...

Development of a Predictive Finite Element Model For Investigation of Phases Behavior After Cold Rolling Process

One of the surface defects that arise in sheet metal working is when the part removes from the die. Since there are no external forces to make this defect, the origin of such fail is known as residual stress. Residual stress can develop in sheet metal forming due to non uniform deformation. In this paper, the workpiece is carbon steel with different volume fractions and arrangement of ferrite ...

AN INVESTIGATION TO BAINITE FORMATION MORPHOLOGIES IN NI-CR BEARING LOW CARBON STEELS THROUGH THERMOMECHANICAL PROCESSING

The presence of bainite in the microstructure of steels to obtain a proper combination of strength and toughness has always been desired. The previous works however have shown that the presence of preferred bainite morphologies in the microstructure of any steel would not be readily accessible. In addition, the appearance of different bainite morphologies in the microstructure of any steel is d...

Low-Carbon Steel Sheet Asymmetric Single-Point Incremental Forming: Analysis and Optimization of the Surface Roughness (TECHNICAL NOTE)

Surface roughness (SR) has an adverse effect on the appearance of low-carbon steel parts, formed in the asymmetric incremental sheet forming (AISF) process, particularly those requiring painting operation. The purpose of this study is to investigate the effects of AISF process parameters on the surface roughness of an asymmetric part formed on low-carbon steel sheets. The parameters are feed ra...
